Your Anniversary Results
Upcoming Anniversary Milestones
Results use calendar dates rather than approximate year lengths. For 29 February anniversaries, 28 February is used in non-leap years. A completed day is counted at the start of the selected calendar date.
How to Use the Anniversary Calculator
Calculating an anniversary takes just a few steps. Enter your dates, choose the type of anniversary and review your personalised timeline.
Choose Your Anniversary Type
Select Wedding or Relationship depending on the occasion you want to calculate. Both options use the same calendar-based calculation method.
Enter Your Important Dates
Add your wedding date or relationship start date. The calculator automatically uses today's date, but you can choose another calculation date.
Calculate and Explore Results
Select Calculate Anniversary to see your time together, total days, completed weeks, next anniversary and upcoming yearly milestones.
Helpful Tip: Check Your Starting Date
For the most accurate result, use the exact date your relationship began or your wedding took place. Even a one-day difference can affect your countdown and anniversary milestones. You can return to the Anniversary Calculator at any time to adjust your dates.
How Anniversary Calculations Work
The Anniversary Calculator measures the time between your original wedding or relationship start date and your selected calculation date. It uses calendar dates rather than assuming that every month or year has the same number of days.
How We Calculate Your Time Together
Your relationship duration is broken down into completed calendar years, completed calendar months and remaining days.
Count Completed Years
The calculator counts full anniversary years reached by your selected calculation date.
Count Completed Months
After identifying the completed years, it counts full calendar-month milestones from the original start date without repeatedly shifting the day of the month.
Calculate Remaining Days
Finally, it counts the calendar days between the last completed monthly milestone and your selected calculation date.
Total days are calculated separately from the actual difference between the two dates. Completed weeks equal total days divided by seven, rounded down.
Anniversary Calculation Example
Imagine a couple who began their relationship on 15 June 2020 and want to calculate their time together as of 9 October 2026.
The couple completed six years on 15 June 2026, three additional months on 15 September 2026, and another 24 days by 9 October 2026. Their seventh anniversary will be on 15 June 2027.
How the Calculator Handles Special Dates
Leap-Year Anniversaries
If your original anniversary is 29 February, the calculator uses 28 February in years without a leap day. In leap years, it uses 29 February.
Months With Different Lengths
Months have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days. When a corresponding day does not exist, the calculator uses the last valid day of that month for the monthly milestone.
Anniversaries Falling Today
When your selected calculation date falls exactly on an anniversary, the countdown shows “Today!” and includes that anniversary in the upcoming milestones.
Important: The calculator measures dates, not relationship quality or compatibility. Wedding and relationship options use the same date-calculation method. The selected calculation date determines the results, so changing it can also change the next anniversary and milestone countdown.
What Do Your Anniversary Results Mean?
Once you enter your dates, the Anniversary Calculator displays several results to help you understand your relationship timeline. Here's what each number means and how you can use it.
Time Together
This is your elapsed relationship or marriage duration, expressed in completed calendar years, completed months and remaining days. Unlike a simple estimate, it accounts for the different lengths of calendar months.
Total Days Together
This is the number of elapsed calendar days between your original start date and your selected calculation date. It includes leap days when they fall within that period.
Completed Weeks
This converts your total elapsed days into complete seven-day periods. Any remaining days that do not form a full week are excluded from the completed-weeks figure.
Next Anniversary Date
This shows the next yearly anniversary on or after your selected calculation date. The calculator also identifies the anniversary number, such as your 5th, 10th or 25th.
Days Until Anniversary
This is the number of calendar days remaining until your next yearly anniversary. If the selected calculation date is the anniversary itself, the result displays “Today!” instead of a countdown.
Upcoming Milestones
The calculator lists your next five yearly anniversaries, including their dates and countdowns. This provides a convenient timeline of upcoming relationship or marriage milestones.
How to Read Your Upcoming Milestones
Your anniversary timeline begins with the next yearly anniversary that has not yet passed as of your selected calculation date. It then displays the following four anniversaries.
For example, if a relationship began on 15 June 2020 and the calculation date is 9 October 2026, the next anniversary is the seventh, followed by the eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh.
These are yearly anniversaries rather than separate day-based milestones such as 100 or 1,000 days together.
Remember: Your Calculation Date Matters
All results are calculated relative to the date selected in the “Calculate As Of” field. Changing that date changes the elapsed duration, total days, completed weeks and anniversary countdown. The calculator uses calendar dates, with 28 February representing a 29 February anniversary in non-leap years. You can return to the calculator to explore different dates.
Common Anniversary Milestones and Their Meanings
Every anniversary marks another year of shared experiences. Some wedding anniversaries are traditionally associated with symbolic materials, while relationship anniversaries can be celebrated in whatever way feels meaningful to you.
1st Anniversary

5th Anniversary
WoodWood is traditionally associated with five years of marriage. It can inspire gifts such as a personalised wooden keepsake or a planted tree.
10th Anniversary
Tin or AluminiumA decade together is a memorable milestone. Traditional themes include tin or aluminium, although many couples prefer a shared experience.
25th Anniversary
SilverThe silver anniversary marks 25 years of marriage. Couples may celebrate with a family gathering, a meaningful trip or a keepsake.

Meaningful Relationship Anniversary Ideas
If you are celebrating a dating or relationship anniversary rather than a wedding anniversary, you do not need to follow traditional gift themes. Consider celebrating the memories and experiences that matter most to you both.
First Year Together
Revisit the location of your first date, make a photo collection or write a message about your favourite memories.
Five Years Together
Reflect on the experiences you have shared, plan a meaningful outing or create a keepsake that represents your journey.
Ten Years and Beyond
Celebrate with a trip, a special meal, a family gathering or a personal tradition you can continue in future years.

Common Anniversary Calculation Mistakes to Avoid
Anniversary calculations can seem straightforward, but a small date error or an incorrect assumption about the calendar can change your results. Here are six common mistakes and how to avoid them.
Entering the Wrong Starting Date
A wedding date and a relationship start date are not always the same. Using the wrong date can change the duration, total days and upcoming anniversary countdown.
Choose the correct anniversary type and enter the original date associated with that occasion.
Assuming Every Year Has 365 Days
Leap years contain 366 days. Multiplying the number of years by 365 can therefore produce an incorrect total-days result when the period includes a leap day.
Use actual calendar dates. The calculator accounts for leap days when calculating elapsed days and completed weeks.
Treating Every Month as 30 Days
Calendar months vary in length. Dividing total elapsed days by 30 will not always match a calendar-based years, months and days calculation.
Interpret months as completed calendar months rather than fixed 30-day periods.
Confusing Completed and Upcoming Anniversaries
A couple approaching their tenth anniversary has not yet completed ten years together. The anniversary number shown for the next celebration may be higher than the completed years displayed in the duration result.
Use “Time Together” for completed duration and “Next Anniversary” for the upcoming yearly milestone.
Overlooking 29 February Anniversaries
A date of 29 February does not appear in every calendar year. Different anniversary calculators may apply different conventions for non-leap years.
This calculator uses 28 February for 29 February anniversaries in non-leap years and 29 February in leap years.
Using the Wrong Calculation Date
The “Calculate As Of” field controls the date against which the duration and countdown are measured. A historical or future date can produce different results from today.
Check the calculation date before reviewing your results. Leave it set to today when you want your current anniversary timeline.
Example: Completed Years vs Next Anniversary
Suppose a couple married on 20 November 2016 and calculate their anniversary as of 9 October 2026.
“We Have Been Married for 10 Years”
Their tenth anniversary is approaching, but it has not yet occurred as of the selected calculation date.
9 Years, 10 Months, 19 Days
Their next anniversary is their tenth, on 20 November 2026. They will complete ten full years on that date.
Quick Anniversary Accuracy Checklist
Before using your anniversary results to plan a celebration, check these four details.
Confirm that you selected Wedding or Relationship for the correct occasion.
Double-check the day, month and year of the original starting date.
Verify that “Calculate As Of” is set to the date you intend to use.
Distinguish your completed time together from your next anniversary number.
Need to correct a date? Return to the Anniversary Calculator and adjust your inputs. The calculator recalculates your timeline using the updated dates, including the next anniversary and upcoming yearly milestones.

Anniversary Calculator FAQs
Find answers to common questions about calculating wedding and relationship anniversaries, counting years together, handling leap years and understanding your next anniversary date.
1. How do I calculate how long we have been together?
Enter the date your relationship began and choose the date you want to calculate up to. The Anniversary Calculator displays the elapsed time in completed years, months and remaining days, along with total days and completed weeks.
2. Can I use this calculator for wedding anniversaries?
Yes. Select the Wedding option and enter your wedding date. The calculator determines your marriage duration, next wedding anniversary, days remaining and five upcoming yearly anniversaries.
3. What is the difference between a wedding anniversary and a relationship anniversary?
A wedding anniversary is measured from the date of marriage, while a relationship anniversary is measured from the date a couple considers their relationship to have begun.
Both use the same calendar-based calculation method, but the starting dates may differ.
4. How does the calculator count years, months and days?
The calculator measures completed calendar years first, followed by completed calendar months and any remaining days. It accounts for different month lengths rather than assuming every month has 30 days.
5. Does the Anniversary Calculator include leap years?
Yes. The total-days calculation uses actual calendar dates, including leap days when they occur within the selected period. This avoids the inaccuracies that can result from treating every year as 365 days.
6. What happens if our anniversary is on 29 February?
For an original anniversary date of 29 February, this calculator uses 28 February in non-leap years and 29 February in leap years.
This is the calculator's stated convention. Couples may personally choose to celebrate on a different date in non-leap years.
7. How do I find out when our next anniversary is?
Enter your original start date and select your calculation date. The results identify the next yearly anniversary on or after that date, including its anniversary number and the number of days remaining.
8. What happens if today is our anniversary?
If your selected calculation date falls exactly on a yearly anniversary, the calculator identifies that anniversary and displays “Today!” instead of a positive countdown.
9. Can I calculate an anniversary for a past or future date?
Yes. Change the “Calculate As Of” field to a historical or future date that is not earlier than your original start date. The calculator then measures the relationship timeline relative to your selected date rather than automatically using today.
10. How are completed weeks together calculated?
Completed weeks are calculated by dividing the total elapsed days by seven and counting only whole weeks.
For example, 100 elapsed days equals 14 completed weeks, with two days remaining.
11. What are the five upcoming anniversary milestones?
These are the next five consecutive yearly anniversaries, beginning with the next anniversary on or after your calculation date.
For example, if your next anniversary is your seventh, the timeline will show your seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh anniversaries, with their dates and countdowns.
12. Can I copy or save my anniversary results?
Yes. After calculating your anniversary, use the Copy Results button to copy the results summary. You can then paste it into a note, message or another document.
The calculator does not automatically schedule reminders or send notifications.

Anniversary Calculator Methodology, Accuracy and Limitations
Understanding how your results are calculated helps you interpret them correctly. Our Anniversary Calculator uses calendar-based date arithmetic to measure elapsed time and identify upcoming yearly anniversaries.
Calendar-Based Duration
The calculator measures completed calendar years, then completed calendar months, followed by any remaining days.
This approach reflects actual calendar boundaries instead of treating every year or month as a fixed number of days.
Day-Based Calculations
Total elapsed days are calculated from the difference between the selected calendar dates, including leap days.
Completed weeks are derived from that total by counting full seven-day periods.
Calendar Rules Used by This Calculator
The following rules explain how the calculator handles common calendar situations and keeps its anniversary calculations consistent.
Leap Years
Leap years are included when measuring total elapsed days. The additional day in February is counted when it falls within the selected period.
29 February Anniversaries
When the original anniversary falls on 29 February, the calculator uses 28 February in non-leap years. In leap years, it uses 29 February.
Shorter Calendar Months
When a completed-month calculation reaches a month without the original day number, the calculator uses the final valid day of that month.
Original Anniversary Date
Each yearly anniversary is calculated from the original starting month and day. Adjustments made for shorter months do not permanently shift later anniversaries.
Selected Calculation Date
Results are measured relative to the “Calculate As Of” date. This can be today's date or another valid date on or after the starting date.
Upcoming Yearly Anniversaries
The next anniversary is the first yearly anniversary on or after the calculation date. The calculator then lists five consecutive upcoming yearly anniversaries.
Core Calculation Formulas
These simplified formulas explain the calculator's day-based results. The calendar-duration calculation also accounts for month lengths and anniversary boundaries.
Calculation Date − Start Date
The difference between the two calendar dates, expressed as a whole number of days.
floor(Total Days ÷ 7)
Divide total days by seven and discard any incomplete week.
Next Anniversary − Calculation Date
The number of calendar days from the selected calculation date to the next yearly anniversary.
Anniversary Year − Start Year
Identifies the yearly milestone, such as the 5th, 10th or 25th anniversary.
Important Limitations and Assumptions
The calculator is designed for personal anniversary planning and date exploration. Keep these points in mind when using the results.
Dates, not exact times: The calculator measures calendar days. It does not calculate elapsed hours, minutes or seconds.
Starting-date accuracy: Results depend on the date entered. The calculator cannot independently verify when a relationship or marriage began.
Leap-day convention: Using 28 February for a 29 February anniversary in non-leap years is a calculation convention, not a requirement for when couples must celebrate.
Annual milestones: The five upcoming milestones are consecutive yearly anniversaries. They are not automatically selected based on traditional gift themes or round-number day milestones.
No automatic reminders: The calculator displays anniversary dates and countdowns but does not send notifications or create calendar reminders.
Informational use: Results are intended for general information and personal planning. For legal or administrative purposes, verify relevant dates against official records and requirements.
